1.      What is "Distant Healing”?                                    

      Distant healing is a Reiki session that is sent from a Reiki practitioner or master in one geographic location to a person who requested the healing in another geographic location. 

Distance Healing is the transmission of the Reiki energy to a person or animal without the Reiki practitioner being physically present. Distance healing is used when a person or animal is in need of healing but cannot visit a Reiki Practitioner. Since the Reiki is not limited by time, space or distance the one receiving the energy and the Reiki Practitioner can be half a world away from one another and the Reiki is just as effective. The healing energy channelled is as strong as that experienced during a personal visit. A Distance Healing session is at a prearranged time and takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes 

2.      What is a "distance" treatment?
Only a Reiki Level 2 or a Reiki Master can give a distance treatment. Reiki distance treatments are learned advanced techniques for transferring Reiki energy to a distant time or location. Although we do not understand either the energy or how it works, there is considerable evidence that Reiki is able to travel independent of time or distance to deliver healing. Most Reiki practitioners use this technique similar to a telephone. They know it works and do not necessarily have a clue as to the underlying mechanisms. 

3.         What can be treated with Reiki during distant healing? 

Reiki has a positive effect on all forms of illness and negative conditions. This includes minor things like head or stomach aches, bee stings, colds, flu, tension and anxiety as well as serious illness like heart disease, cancer, leukaemia, etc. The side effects of regular medical treatments have also been reduced or eliminated. This includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post operative pain and depression as well as improving the healing rate and reducing the time needed to stay in the hospital. Reiki always helps and in some cases people have experienced complete healings which have been confirmed by medical tests before and after the Reiki treatments. However, while some have experienced miracles, they cannot be guaranteed. Stress reduction with some improvement in ones physical and psychological condition are what most experience. 

4.      Does Distant Healing work as well as physical Reiki treatments?                                

      Yes, the results of distant healings are just as good as the results of sessions done in the physical. Being treated with Reiki (a series of sessions) via the distant technique is also as effective. 

5.      Where does this distant healing technique come from?                                                                  Dr. Ushui who developed Reiki also developed the distant healing technique. He called it "The Photograph Technique." He called it that because he required a photo of the person receiving Reiki in order to send the Reiki energy to them. 

6.         Can anybody do distant healing sessions?                                                                               Anyone who is a Reiki 2 Practitioner or a Master can provide this service. Distance healings may be sent by practitioners of Reiki II and Reiki Masters. In a meditative process involving intention and the sacred symbols of Reiki, the practitioner is able to direct Reiki energy to the receiver, who may be across the room or miles away. Distance healing can also be sent to past and future situations, such as an upcoming meeting or interview or a past event. 

Some Reiki practitioners send Reiki to the Earth and troubling situations in the global community. Practitioners may also send regular distance healings to a group of people, such as family & friends, clients, their Reiki family lineage or any other group. 

Please note that Reiki is not a substitute for qualified medical care and does not diagnose or promise medical cure. "Healing" means you are becoming whole with one's spirit.

7.         Can I request distant healing for someone else?                                                                  Yes you can. It is courteous to have their permission before requesting healing for them. Sometimes the person needing the healing can't be asked. In these situations, many Practitioners and Masters will send Reiki with the condition that it be received only if the person that it is sent to is willing to receive it. In this way, nothing is forced on anyone. You may be asked to provide the recipient's name and other information such as address depending on how the practitioner works their process. Some practitioners might use a photo of the recipient. For situations, you might give a brief description of the event and may be the location. International  

Reiki Institute offers distance healing by 80 certified Reiki Masters. Distance healings may be requested for yourself or others. It may be used to augment your hands-on Reiki session or for someone else who wants to receive the benefits of Reiki without coming to the office for a Reiki session. 

8.      Is this the same as prayer?                                                                                                                                                            No, not really. With a prayer, we are asking for someone to be healed. We send our prayer and ask that healing be sent to the one for whom we pray. With a distant healing session, the Practitioner is sending Reiki directly to the person wanting or needing the healing. In this way they are different. 

9.      Does distant healing cost money?                                                                                                                                                                                                            There are many places and people found on the internet that will send distant healing free of charge. There are others who want to be compensated for their work. There is no rule about this. 

10.How much information should I give when requesting distant healing?   

       As much as you feel comfortable giving. At the minimum, you need to provide the person's name and the physical location at the time the healing is to be received. This is usually enough on anonymous request boards and prayer services. If you are working with someone on a regular basis, you may want to provide more information. 11.Are there other names for "Distant Healing”?                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Yes. Some Reiki practitioners and masters refer to distant healing as "abstensia healing" or it may be called "remote healing". These are all the same. 

14.     Is a Distant Attunement and Course Manuals Enough Trainingf or Me to Be a Reiki Healer as a Profession? 

A distant attunement connects you to the Reiki energy. You do not need any additional attunement to be an effective Certified Reiki Healer! As far whether distant training provides all necessary knowledge, the manual you will get has arguably all the information about Reiki and doing treatments that you will need, and will also give some references for excellent Reiki books.

This will get you started on the right track, and may be all that you need because the important information is what you find out for yourself when doing treatments. Much of the "knowledge" with an energy system--Reiki--is personal, individualistic, and subjective. A teacher can be a helpful guide, gently pointing the way, but you are really the only person who can discover your own truths, of course. If you are planning on being a Reiki practitioner professionally, you might find it helpful to get some direct experience giving and receiving treatments with someone who does Reiki professionally, as this will help you get a better handle on the application of Reiki within a practice, legal and ethical issues, etc. But, if this is not possible, you will not be the first person who has found his/her own way as a healer.

 After Dr. Usui was "initiated by the light" and found he had healing skills, he too began the journey of finding his own path as a healer. He reportedly treated various people he encountered and gained many experiences before starting a clinic.  

15.     How Is Distance Healing Possible? 

The process is very simple and very effective! You can receive distance healing no matter where in the world you are in relation to your Reiki Practitioner. It's only in our physical world that there are such things as time and distance. In Spirit, we simply intend to connect with each other and we are in the same 'space'.  

When I'm online with a person who asks for a sample of Reiki, they often relate their experience in amazement asking, "How can you do that over the Phone and the internet?"  I explain that it's not done 'over the internet'!  The internet makes us aware of each other as individuals, which also brings us together mentally, emotionally and spiritually. We can intend to interact on the Spiritual plane, the intention activates the possibility, and then you can easily receive Reiki healing, which is a particular frequency of light energy.

16.     How does a Reiki distance session work? 

Since Reiki is pure vital energy, it is free from physical limitations. The Reiki II or Reiki Master practitioner is trained in techniques for directing the flow of this positive energy. It is the same force in whatever manner it is delivered by hands-on or distance healing methods. 

The process involves focusing on the person or situation receiving the energy, opening up the energetic pathway with the Reiki Distance Symbol and sending Reiki energy. Each practitioner develops their own techniques, but basically they energetically connect with the recipient and can actually feel the energy flowing. 

The recipient receives the energy instantaneously.

They may or may not have some sensations as part of the healing action; it is not necessary to feel sensations as a verification that the energy is working. The resulting experience can be as subtle as an overall feeling of well being or as noticeable as relief from pain. 

17.      How can I receive a distance attunement?  

Attunement is only given by Reiki Masters. The amazing thing about distance attunement is that you don't need to be in the physical presence of the Master. Some people have subtle sensations during an attunement; some people don’t feel anything particularly unusual. In any case, sensation is not an indication that the attunement worked. The first attunement always works and lasts a lifetime. 

Daily self healing practice is recommended to bring in the energy. Your Master Teacher will give you hand positions to use on yourself. The positions basically cover the 7 major chakras. Even if you don’t feel any sensations in your hands in the beginning, you will eventually know what the energy feels like for you. Some people feel warmth in their hands, some feel a subtle tingling or a combination of both - it is very individual. 

18.     How long should I wait between attunements? 

In my experience, I was distance attuned at all four levels in 1hour, a relatively rapid process. I had major healing to do and everyone is different. The path to Reiki Mastery is very individual and it depends on each person's spiritual readiness, their constitution and their desire to fulfil their purpose in Reiki. 

I am proof that distance attunement work! I was distance attuned at all four levels twice by my Masters who are in America while I was in Mauritius. When I give Reiki to myself or others, I can feel the energy vibrating through my hands. The in person and distance attunement I have given to others always work. Even my child and wife, who are now attuned to the Master level, can feel Reiki flow through their hands. Reiki is truly an exciting and magical experience!  

19.    Is Reiki distance energy healing a religion?
No, Reiki distance healing energy is not a religion. It is simply a powerful method of asking the divine to assist a person, plant, animal, situation, event, etc. In no way does its effectiveness require an alteration of religious precepts. 

20.      Must a recipient believe in Distance Reiki healing energy to obtain results?
No, Reiki distant healing energy does not discriminate between believers and sceptics. An awareness of it's presence in your life is beneficial. I have witnessed many pleasantly surprised sceptics reverse their thinking after experiencing Reiki distance healing energy. I was one of those sceptics in the early days. 

21.    Can Reiki remote energy healing ever be used to hurt someone?
Due to its divine origin, Reiki remote healing energy only produces good. No one can use reiki to do any harm or produce any negative effect on any living or dead organism. 

22.    Why should requests for Reiki remote healing be more general rather than specific?
By being too specific, it often conflicts with someone else's free will OR the highest and best outcome for the recipient. It is better to focus on the general feeling from your desire. Example: financial security, a loving relationship, good health, happiness. 

23.    How long do the effects of Reiki distance energy healing treatments last?
Reiki distance healing energy often produces positive life altering changes in how one thinks and approaches their life. The recipient and the higher source determine how the Reiki distance healing energy is best utilized. 

24.    Is Reiki a Japanese philosophy?
No, the only reason it has a Japanese name is because this old and once obscure method of praying and facilitating healing was re-discovered by a Japanese man, Dr. Usui. 

25.    Is it important to understand how Reiki distance healing energy works to derive benefit?                             No, only a willing soul is the prerequisite to receiving this powerful and divine energy. I use electricity daily without ever understanding how it works. I listen to the radio and see the T.V. without ever understanding how sound and image reaches my home.
